When Do I Take Off My Wedding Veil?

If you are going to be wearing a veil for your wedding day,
there are a few things to keep in mind!

  •  Traditionally, brides wore the veil covering their face and had their dad unveil them at the front of the aisle
before handing them off.
A modern trend is to not cover your face, but still have the veil on in the back. It's a preference based decision!
There are some wonky theories out there for the reason behind this tradition. The best one I have read is that it is a white and pretty covering used as a representation of modesty, and also symbolizes the hand off
from your parents to your new husband. It's sometimes a special thing for your dad to get to do for you- depending on the relationship and your dad's opinion!

Many brides don't see it as a necessary tradition to follow nowadays- so go with whatever you feel most comfortable doing!

  • I recommend playing around with the placement of your veil during your hair preview with your stylist.
If you have an all down look, it can be tricky getting it to stay. If you have an updo you need to decide if you will have it above or below your updo.

When to take it off:
  • Most brides leave their veil on until about half way through the portraits of her and her groom (after the ceremony). Some leave it on until the Reception grand entrance, and some take it off right after the ceremony.
I personally recommend leaving it on for a the family portraits, the bridal party photos, and half of the bride and groom photos!
One of my favorite shots to do is to wrap you up in that veil with your groom!
